I am looking forward to spring break next week and such much needed rest as I am sure the students are looking forward to as well. This week, however, there is still plenty to do in math and science.
The 6th graders are on their new unit in math and will spend this week writing, describing, and evaluating variable expressions both single step and then multi-step. In science, they will be learning about the gravity and water as agents of erosion and will be connecting both math and science units through an investigation relating height and width of sand hills.PARENTS!!! PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN THE PERMISSION SLIP BY FRIDAY!
The 7th graders have a math test this Thursday on linear equations. Before then, we will be investigating y-intercepts and writing and graphing equations using the slope-intercept form. In science, after a test on Monday, they will begin a unit of genetics by learning about Mendel and his peas.
The 8th graders also have a math test on Monday on systems of linear equations. They will then begin learning about graphing , writing, and solving linear inequalities. In science, we will be learning about the digestive system and nutrition. Students will be keeping a food journal of what they eat on Wednesday will analyze their food choices as well as planning a day of meals following USDA recommendations.

6th Grade Field Trip Info: Next Week our 6th Graders will go to Ford Field to see first hand the effects of water erosion and how the force of moving water can change the Earth's surface. They will be testing the water's speed at two points and determining visually how the speed affects erosion and deposition. They will also see methods of human intervention in slowing erosion. Below is a map.
